This OER gives a short overview of a basic skill set for the work in digital cultural heritage and discusses the topic of Digital and Multimedia Literacy vs. Metamodal Mastery. The key point of it is the jump from mere understanding and reflected “consumption” of media towards production skills and being an active part of the participatory culture.
Dr. Florian Wiencek is an expert on the interface of Digital Media and Cultural Learning. He earned his B.Sc. in Digital Media and M.A. in Art and Cultural Mediation from the University of Bremen and his PhD in Visual Studies at Jacobs University Bremen. He currently works as a Training Officer at the Austrian Center for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and is responsible for knowledge transfer between research projects in the area of Digital Humanities and the expert community as well as higher education.
He is a consultant for digital mediation of art and culture for museums and cultural institutions. Previously he worked at Fluxguide on Digitial Concepts and R&D and conceptualised digital mediation and learning applications for museums –including the Deutsches Museum, Deutsches Bergbaumuseum Bochum, Landesmuseum Württemberg or the Arvo Pärt Centre. He also participated,with others, as a researcher in the innovation project HoloMuse.
